Overview:

Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) is an organization in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, India concerned with interests of Buddhists in Ladakh. It was founded in 1933 by King Jigmet Dadul Namgyal, Kalon Tsewang Rigzin, Kalon Bankapa Morup Gyaltsan and Munshi Sonam Tsewang with the aim of looking after the Buddhist interests, bringing social reforms in Ladakhi society and to preserve its art, culture, language and tradition. It strive towards a healthy compassionate and eco-friendly society having regards to human rights and non-violence with special focus on sustainable development addressing women issues, educational infrastructures and child welfare.

Apart from experience the ancient monastic life Indus valley, one could get to explore the north of Ladakh lies Nubra valley once it used to be the melting pot for silk route traders, cross some of the world high passes including Khardung-la world highest motorable Pass, explore one of the most beautiful high altitude lake on earth Pangong which share by two countries India and China, explore the broken moon land at Lamayuru.

Day1

Arrive in Leh Airport(3445mtrs)

Day2

Leh – Sankar Monastery – Shanti Stupa

After breakfast, proceed for a tour of Leh and see its ancient monuments and Buddhist sites. After lunch, visit the Shanti Stupa, inaugurated in 1983 by H.H.Dalai Lama, the peace Pagoda, whose sides are decorated with gilt panels depicting episodes from the life of Buddha, is one of the several monuments errected around India by peace sect of Japanese Buddhists. Then drive to the Sankar Monastery , The Gompa (Monestry in local language), contains a formidable collection of miniature stattues of pure gold and ancient paintings(called Thangkas) also done with gold. Return back to hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day3

Leh – Hemis – Thiksey – Shey – Leh

After breakfast proceed for a tour of the Hemis Gompa, the biggest and the wealthiest in Ladakh. Around the monastery you will see Chortens or Buddhist reliquaries and ornate walls. Thiksey Monastery , located on a hilltop with formidable views of the Indus valley. Within the monastery you can see many beautiful Buddhist artifacts. Shey Palace, the former summer palace of the King of Ladakh. Return back to your hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day4

Leh – Alchi

Proceed to Nalanda . On arrival visit Nalanda University, one of the greatest learning centers in ancient India. Visit Nalanda museum . Later visit Vishwa shanti stupa at Rajgir. Later proceed to Patna.

Day5

Alchi – Lamayuru – Alchi

After breakfast, drive to Lamayuru. Lamayuru monastery, founded, properly called Yung-drung(Swastika) founded in the 11th centuary perched on a spur high above the valley bottom just off the main road, it is one of the most spectacularly picturesque gompas(Gompa means Monestry in local language) in central ladakh, as it descends from the Fa-tula to Khalatseset Lamayuru, properly called Yung-drung(Swastika) is believed to be the oldest in central Ladakh and to have been the holy place of the Bon-chos the advent of Buddhism. Overnight at camp.

Day6

Alchi – Ridzong and Likir Monasteries – Leh

Morining proceed to visit Ridzong Monastery, is the only Nunnery Monestry in Ladakh. Ridzong is a nunnery, where Buddhist nuns reside. Breakfast at the hotel. Later drive for Leh. Enroute visit the Likir Monastery set up on a hill top of a low hill, it was re-founded in the 15th century by the Gelupa Sect(Yellow Sect). Later we resume our drive along the Indus River. Lunch at the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in the hotel.

Day7

Leh – Saboo – Leh

After breakfast drive to Saboo village to see the village life of Ladakh. Visit the Local Buddhist house to see the private chapels and also visit the traditional Kitchen and get a demonstration of preparing Gur Gur tea or butter tea. Back to Leh and enjoy shopping and sightseeing. Overnight at the hotel.

Day8

Leh – Stok – Tibetan Handicraft

Breakfast at the hotel. Later proceed to visit Stok Palace, the former residence of the Royal family of Ladakh. Visit the museum at the palace where royal family’s heirlooms and artifacts are displayed. Then visit tour the Ladakh Handicraft Center, After that travel to Choglamsar, which is the largest settlement of Tibetan refugee. Overnight at the hotel.

Day9

Leh Airport

Breakfast at the hotel. Later check out and transfer to the Leh Airport to board the flight for your onwards destination.
